2024 Pescadora Billfish Championship Celebrates The World’s Top Females
QUEPOS, Costa Rica (February 17, 2024) – The 2024 Pescadora Billfish Championship, proudly presented by Costa Sunglasses, once again celebrated the prowess of the world's top female anglers at the picturesque Marina Pez Vela in Quepos, Costa Rica. Drawing participation from 61 teams, this year's championship showcased the remarkable skills of female anglers, ranging from emerging talents to seasoned experts. With over 264 anglers representing 13 countries, the competition unfolded over two intense days, resulting in the release of 708 sailfish and 9 marlin. The atmosphere was electric as the teams battled for supremacy, with day one seeing Miss AC setting the pace and finishing as the point leader with 1,680 points.
Day 2 brought heightened intensity to the competition. Sea Angel shook up the rankings, climbing from 10th place to edge out Miss AC for the top spot by a mere 20 points, closely followed by Grand Slam. In the Meat Fish division, Team Fly Girls aboard Fire Fly and Team Reel Hookers on Offensive claimed top honors for tuna and dorado, respectively.
Maria Magalhaes of Team Uno Mas clinched the prestigious Female Angler of the Year Award in the IFGA Release division, while Christa Forrester of Team Restless Ladies claimed the same accolade in the Hook and Hand Division.
Pescadora's commitment to ocean conservation shone through its collaboration with Gray FishTag Research, tagging 119 fish during the tournament. Team My Three Sons earned the Top Tagging Team award, and Christa Forrester secured the Top Tagging Angler award with fourteen tagged billfish.
The 2024 Pescadora not only celebrates the achievements of female anglers but also recognizes junior anglers, fostering the next generation of fishing enthusiasts. Five young ladies competed this year with Elizabeth Arn being crowned Top Junior Angler. The championship remains a groundbreaking platform, promoting inclusivity and providing every skill level with the opportunity to compete at the highest level.
